ProducePal

An app for ordering produce online

Problem Definition:

As people start to conduct more and more of their shopping online, as opposed to physically shopping in brick and mortar stores, they will undoubtedly start to make use of their mobile devices for online shopping.

Create a mobile app that allows someone from the "young professional" demographic to shop for fresh produce in his or her spare time, as he or she may not have time to visit a grocery store, or may live in an area where trips to a supermarket to purchase produce are not the most feasible.

Solution:

For this problem, I created a mobile app with simple functionality, the basis of which is organizing produce products into 3 separate categories (Fruits, Vegetables, Herbs & Spices), and placing them into horizontal containers which the user can quickly browse through.  If the user wishes to only focus on one category, he/she can view all of the items within a certain category in an alphabetical list.  The user can also search for an item if he/she does not want to browse.

The user can also save items of interest to a "favorites" list in order to save time when later reordering commonly-consumed produce items.  In order to encourage the user to purchase more items, the home screen features a prominent "deal of the day", as well as an indication that reminds the user how much money he/she saved during a previous time period by shopping with this app.
